A rooftop unit can be working properly while the roof connection around it needs attention. The equipment, its support and the weatherproofing are related parts of the building, but they are not the same task. Repairs or equipment changes go better when those responsibilities are discussed together.

The curb joins two different jobs
A curb raises equipment above the roof surface and provides a place for the roof covering to turn up and terminate. The equipment needs the right support, while the roof detail needs to keep water from entering at that change in height. A problem in one part may require access or coordination with the other.
The membrane or panel must connect correctly around the curb. Corners, terminations and nearby seams deserve attention because the water-shedding surface changes direction there. A surface patch is only useful if it fits the existing system and addresses the actual failed connection.
When equipment is replaced, the new unit or curb arrangement may not match the old opening. The roofing scope needs to explain how the changed detail will be completed, including any abandoned openings.
A service visit can change the water path
A new pipe or cable route can create a roof penetration that needs a compatible flashing detail. An old opening left after equipment removal needs to be properly closed. Walk paths and the movement of tools or parts can also affect the covering around an otherwise sound unit.
This is a coordination issue, not a reason to assume another trade caused a leak. A leak can have several possible paths, and water may travel within the assembly before becoming visible indoors. Begin with the actual condition and the timing of any known changes.
Drainage matters around equipment as well. Debris or objects near outlets can interfere with the water path. If a roof area holds water, the outlet, roof shape and assembly need assessment; adding a broad coating does not by itself settle those questions.
Keep the roof detail in the equipment plan
Before equipment work begins, identify who handles the roof connection and what system is already present. Keep access arrangements, sensitive occupied areas and any proposed shutdowns in the project conversation. The building’s operation affects the sequence, but no single arrangement fits every property.

Keep the equipment change and roof repair information together afterward. A date, the affected roof area and the work performed can make a later concern easier to discuss.
